It is finally Spring here in Europe and today we are all also celebrating (Inter)national Fragrance Day! Perfect timing for announcing winners of the third Persefume Awards ! (for our 2017 edition click here).

Today’s post is dedicated to Vero Kern – your youthful spirit, energy, modesty and class have been always so inspiring! Those talks full of patience, respect, humour – we will always remember it while spraying Vero Profumo Rozy, or Naja. You will always stay in our hearts!

Vero Kern

As last year, in our Summary we are going to skip reviews, but instead we will again present you Persefume‘s list of 33 not to miss fragrances of 2018 – creations which touched and impressed us, those perfumes which according to us should be tested, cherished, discovered and loved. It was pretty hard mission to select them from the hundreds of artistic perfumery launches plus it has to be noted that several houses introduced not just one scent, but whole big lines, yet this year’s rule was to choose just one scent from those debuting collections.

We would also like to name two special, limited editions:

L’IRIS DE FATH by Jacques Fath – emotional rebirth of cult perfume, work curated by Rania Naim and composed by Patrick Revillard (MAELSTROM)

SANTI BURGAS EAU DADETTE – another return, limited edition attar in truly eye-catching bottle

Now time for ten brands to watch – both newcomers, or those already well established on the market – but with equal passion, they will be surely on our radar in upcoming months!

1. 4160 TUESDAYS – well known to all fragrance enthusiasts, this Sarah McCartney‘s house keeps to surprise us with many new limited editions including upcoming and dreamy Clouds – joint project with Christi Long of Eau My Soul.

2. CLOON KEEN – we know this Irish brand practically from the day one, but now with updated packaging and new scent offerings it is definitely the house to follow

3. ELLA K PARFUMSSonia Constant Gagliardi of Givaudan has large record of successful perfumes and her signature ELLA K project just proves it. Our review is in making.

4. FORT AND MANLE (perfumer: Rasei Fort). We put Australian house Fort and Manle in the same section year ago, but now we can finally confirm it: it is one of the major Persefume’s 2018 discoveries. Look for our full report after Esxence.

5. LE MONARQUE PARIS. Luxury has its own price – but limited Monarque’s creations are totally worth it – check our review here

(campaign by Roberto Greco)

6. PEKJI. Recently reviewed house from Turkey – both rebel and authentic.

7. SOUL COUTURE PARFUM – One of few existing lines where all scents are equally good! Congratuations to perfumer Michele Marin. We should publish our full “He says, she says” overview in April.

8. THE ZOOChristopher Laudamiel‘s funky and playful house. No limits here.

9. VISITEUR – this project by Janne Rainer Vuorenmaa from Sweden will actually kick off this Spring, but we have already smelled three debuting creations created with talented Cecile Zarokian plus Marie Schnirer and Patrice Revillard from MAELSTROM and we can say: prepare for the surprise!

10 .WIDE SOCIETY – chic, travel-friendly and affordable. Younger sister of The Different Company is definitely the one to watch.

Best mainstream perfumes? It was another good year for Mugler and Chloe (bravo for this smart creative direction, Pierre Aulas!). Gucci and Albert Morilas keep making decent perfumes (though Tom Ford’s era is still hard to beat).
Kilian‘s selective “My Kind of Love” line for Sephora (or Douglas) has been hardly criticized for tacky names and too mainstream scents, but Jakub liked it enough to get all five of them! The walk of shame: Dior and its “Joy” – name taken from Patou, now also owned by LVMH.

Finally, the best perfumers! The core remain the same – as always, congratulations to Bertrand Duchaufour, Rodrigo Flores-Roux, Luca Maffei (Atelier Fragranze Milano); Amelie Bourgeois and Anne-Sophie Behaghel of Flair Paris, Cecile Zarokian, Quentin Bisch. Sonia Constant Gagliardi, MAELSTROM team and Rasai Fort complete this list.

That is all for now, dear readers! Appologises for our recent break in new posts – we’ve had quite busy life recently with new jobs, movings, personal issues – but Persefume still is and will be our huge passion! And as always, our sincere thank you to all brand owners, perfumers, distributors (Barbara!), PR Offices for their nice gestures and patience; to our Polish friends from Quality Missala and Mood Scent Bar; to all fellow co-bloggers (you know who you are – prepare to be hugged soon!) and finally to few special people who always keep us inspired: Margo, Cezary, Joanna, Troy
See you with new posts and of course with extensive Esxence 2019 reports (we have just renewed our Esxence Media Partnership).

With love, Jakub and Aleksandra.
